North Elmham held a Remembrance Service in our school hall. Sheep class showed their poppy art, some children from Whales and Lions class read their own poems, songs were beautifully sung and Lions class performed the famous poem ‘In Flanders Fields’. Reverend Sally read out the names of those who died from North Elmham in the two World Wars and children prayed some prayers. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who came to support and well done to our children!
The school came together recently to put on a charity afternoon. With lots of our families in attendance, children really enjoyed a competitive game of bingo! We had spent the morning preparing food for our guests – Sheep class made some delicious biscuits, Whales made a selection of sandwiches and Lions class made some yummy cupcakes. Lions class then took on the waiter/waitress roles to serve the other children and adults. Thank you to everyone that came, we raised a fantastic amount which has been donated to Comic Relief!
Recently we worked in our Key Stages to learn what the NSPCC do and how we can talk to trusted adults in our lives to help us ‘Speak Out’ when we need to. We then explored the NSPCC website, and KS1 thought of their ‘happy places’ and KS2 made fortune tellers containing information about the NSPCC and Childline.
This week we swapped our uniforms for costumes as we celebrated World Book Day! Children loved sharing their favourite stories with each other and finding out who shares a passion for their favourite book. We invited the children to take part in a biscuit baking competition and we had some fantastic entries (winner to be announced in Celebration assembly next week)! In the afternoon we joined David Walliams for a ‘Storytelling Spectacular!’, and were among the first people in the world to hear an exclusive extract of his new book, ‘Robodog’. Thank you to staff, children and parents for making such a great effort this year, to inspire a love of reading that we hope will last a lifetime.
The whole school came together to perform this year’s Christmas play. They sang beautifully and wowed us all with their confidence performing on stage for the first time in many years. Thanks to children, staff and parents for making the day so magical. As we break up for end of term we would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all back in the new year.
We all had a delicious Christmas lunch together, which we enjoyed whilst wearing our Christmas jumpers! The sticky toffee pudding was especially yummy! Afterwards the children had a fun playtime in the snow and frost ❄️🌨
All the classes really enjoyed some shared reading sessions today for World Book Day! Sheep class enjoyed reading some of their favourite stories to the older children, and Whales and Lions did a really good job of reading their books and supporting the younger ones! We all had fun.
The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Growing Together.
Growing Together is about growing emotionally and finding ways to help each other grow. Challenges and setbacks can help us to grow and adapt and trying new things can help us to move beyond our comfort zone into a new realm of possibility and potential.
Each class talked about how they have grown and how they can help others to grow. We also shared the different ways we look after our wellbeing. We each made a support balloon identifying trusted adults and also others who are a support to us.
Many children talked about spending time with their families, friends, pets and the importance of this.
