Big schools’ Birdwatch

Sheep and Whales class had a very productive afternoon preparing to take part in the RSPB’s Big Schools’ Birdwatch. We made bird feeders to hang in our school grounds, learnt how to draw birds, labelled the parts of our feathered friends and Year 2s created fact sheets about the most common garden birds. Great afternoon had by all. 🦉

Sports for Champions

Home

Image resultWe have Laura Samuels an International triple jumper,  supported by Sports for Champions coming into school on 19th January at 13:00.

A sponsorship form was sent home with the children, which will need to be in on the Friday ready for the sponsored events that afternoon.

As the letter said, 60% of the money raised by the sponsorship will go towards the school and the remaining 40% will go towards supporting the International Athletes like Laura to fulfill their dreams of representing Great Britain in their sport.

Mayan and Aztec ‘Hook Day’

Lion and Dove classes had a great first day back last week, and were given a taster of things to expect in this term’s topics. The children all made a Mexican inspired salsa and tortilla chips, designed and created Aztec necklaces decorated with geometric designs, and were given an introduction to the Mayan number system (using pasta and lentils!) . Everyone really enjoyed the day and we’re all looking forward to learning more about the Aztecs and the Mayans over the coming weeks!

KS2 Christmas Talent Show

Wow! What a great show the KS2 children put on for the school. Bags of talent and a wide range of acts. Well done to all those who performed and put in hours of practise.

Ancient Egyptian Engineering!

As part of our topic work this term, Dove class have been designing, constructing and testing an ancient system the Egyptians used to retrieve water from the Nile. The ‘shaduf’ was simple lever mechanism that allowed buckets of water to be lifted and then tipped straight onto the fields next to the river with minimal man-power. The children experimented with placing the fulcrum at different points along the lever arm, deciding on the most effective position, and then had a ‘bucket’ of laughs soaking each other during their testing!

Nativity preparations 2017

Nativity preparations for our 2017 performance ‘A King is Born’ is in full swing! We have been busy rehearsing, making costumes and creating this beautiful back drop with the help from Mrs Randle. The children worked really hard designing and creating the hay bales, camels and the donkey! They even decided on the very careful placement of the baubles! Well done to Sheep and Whales class!

Football skills workshop

Pawel, the FA Skills Coach has been in every Wednesday and taught all classes a variety of football skills. The children have learnt a lot and have enjoyed the experience. Here are a few pictures of Sheep Class participating in the workshops!

Key Stage 2 Collective Worship

Children in Lion class and Dove class have been leading KS2 Collective Worship sessions this term and have treated us all to some fantastic presentations of their own making. Following on from last half term’s theme of ‘courage’, where children led sessions based on people (past and present) who have shown courage in adverse situations, we have now moved on to the theme of ‘thankfulness’. Today, representatives of Lion class taught us about how we should all be thankful for what we have as there are many people living in developing countries who do not have access to the luxuries that we sometimes take for granted. A great question and answer session allowed children to express their thoughts on the topic and prompted further discussion about how we might demonstrate more thankfulness in our everyday lives. Well done Lions and Doves, we’re looking forward to another impressive presentation next week!
